Texas A&M University Central Texas Guest Scholar Dr. Estee Beck

Texas A&M University Central Texas will host guest scholar, Assistant Professor of Technical Writing and Digital Humanities at the University of Texas-Arlington, Dr. Estee Beck at 4:30 p.m. April 17 in Warrior Hall 417. Dr. Beck will present “Manipulating Consent Online: Weapons of Mass Surveillance and the Erosion of Privacy”.
Dr. Beck has written on topics such as the invisible digital identity, persuasive computer algorithms, and what educators can do to reinforce critical media literacy when students use software that monitors their actions.
She’s currently writing a book about decades worth of FTC recommendations for Silicon Valley to selfregulate
surveillance and privacy practices which allowed companies like Facebook and Google to write the policies and procedures that govern online behavior. This presentation is free and open to the public.
