DESCRIPTION:The annual South By Southwest Conference and Festival in Austin will be going on now through March 18. \nSouth by Southwest (SXSW) is one of the largest creative gatherings in the world\, featuring music and film festivals\, conferences on a wide range of topics and exhibitions. \nFour Killeen area artists will be performing at South by Southwest including: \nZac Wilkerson\, a Killeen-based singer-songwriter\, will perform on Friday at the Saxon Pub\, 1320 S. Lamar Blvd. His music is self-described as a soulful blend of Americana\, soul\, country and rock. That show will begin at 10 p.m. \nLeon O’Neal\, a former Killeen resident who now claims Austin as home\, will perform three DJ sets throughout the week. The first will be tonight at Ironwood Hall\, 505 E. 7th St.\, from 8:20 to 8:40 p.m. The next will be Thursday at noon\, at Barcelona\, 209 E 6th St. The last will be Saturday at Bungalow\, at 92 Rainey St. That will begin at 10:40 p.m \nEimaral Sol is an R&B artist from Killeen\, who describes her music as similar to Erykah Badu\, Jhene Aiko\, Alina Baraz and Jorja Smith. She’ll perform at the Sheraton Backyard\, 702 E. 10th St. That show begins at 8:40 p.m. Saturday. \nKilleen-based gospel/hip-hop artist Calvin Hooper — who goes by the stage name Calvin Martyr — will perform at the Church of Christ\, 1903 University Ave. His set begins at 9:20 p.m. on Saturday. DESCRIPTION:A Savannah Strong Block Party will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday in Copperas Cove to benefit 16-year-old Savannah Lewis and her struggle with cancer. \nSince the end of November\, a number of events have been organized by the community to uplift spirits. From a collective decoration for the holidays by community volunteers at her home in Copperas Cove\, to a candlelight vigil and a parade of Jeeps that brought people from out of the state\, Lewis has motivated people from all over with her story. \nThe block party is one such event\, organized by Simmonette Barnes\, a neighbor of Lewis that became aware of her story a few weeks ago. \n“I felt like maybe I should do something if I could\,” Barnes said. \nThe block party will feature food donated by Dam Sandwiches and Bits N Bites Bakery\, as well as other local vendors\, for visitors to enjoy and pay what they can towards donations. \nA number of children’s activities such as visits with Santa\, rides\, bounce houses\, and a DJ will be on-hand throughout the day. \nDonated gift baskets from sponsors and benefactors will be raffled off to raise money for the Lewis family and the expenses that come with dealing for an ill child\, said Barnes. \n“I’m very surprised and overwhelmed in the outpouring of help for this event\,” she said. \nThe block party is open to the public and will be at Northpointe Church at 1115 N. Main St.\, Copperas Cove.
