The Temple Railroad and Heritage Museum, 315 W. Avenue B, Temple. will host a free Archaeology Day from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 4. Visitors will get a chance to talk to archaeologists from the Gault Site as well as Texas Parks and Wildlife, see some of the artifacts found in Texas, take part in activities similar to what people did long ago, like throwing an atlatl, creating a ceramic vessel and drawing a story on paper “buffalo hide.” Visitors will also get a chance to test their archaeology skills by working in a “dig pit” and try using sifters. Temple Public Library will also be onsite with books to read if guests are interested in finding out more about archaeology. Barrel train rides will also be offered, depending on the weather.
